I love recipes like these; minimal ingredients, easy preparation, and maximum flavor. That’s exactly what this three-ingredient sweet and sour sauce is all about. And best of all, there are no added sugars, soy, or other artificial ingredients found in the typical store bought version.
This recipe is a great starting point for additional variations. You could add some red pepper flakes for a spicier version, or add some fresh herbs to add some freshness. Please add your ideas and how you use sweet and sour sauce to the comments below!
Sweet and Sour Sauce
Serve with vegetables, poultry, or meat.
1/2 cup apricot preserves (no sugar added)
1/3 cup coconut aminos
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Whisk all ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to a boil.
Lower heat and whisk for a few minutes. For an extra-thick sauce, whisk at medium heat for a few minutes more.
The sauce will thicken as it cools.
What is coconut aminos?
It’s a wonderful product and great alternative to soy sauce.

This sounds great! Making it tonight and if I end up blogging it I will most definitely send a shout out! I like the idea of adding red pepper flakes to spice it up too:) thanks for the share!
Do you have other soy free recipes. I have a child that is soy intolerant and am looking for some recipes. Thanks
None of the recipes on my blog use soy ingredients.
Great recipe, nice and simple! Could I sub soy sauce for the aminos?
Coconut Aminos is very similar to soy sauce – you may just have to tweak the recipe a little.
I love Coconut Aminos! Have used it for the past year. I’m always looking for new recipes to use it in, and this sounds yummy!
Thanks for sharing it!
What are coconut aminos, and can I find them in a regular grocery store? I was told I am pre-diabetic so will the apricot preserve- in the form of a fruit spread like Smuckers- be o.k for me to use? I get confused about sugar and carb. counting.
Also, could pineapple juice from canned pineapple ( in natural juices) be substituted for the preserve?
Thank you in advance,
Joan
Hi Joan, you can find coconut aminos at Whole Foods and Sprouts, not sure if they are widely available yet. (Also on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2qVqlWn)
