Three Ingredient Sweet and Sour Sauce | Real Food Kosher

I love recipes like these; minimal ingredients, easy preparation, and maximum flavor. That’s exactly what this three-ingredient sweet and sour sauce is all about. And best of all, there are no added sugars, soy, or other artificial ingredients found in the typical store bought version.

Three Ingredient Sweet and Sour Sauce | Real Food Kosher

This recipe is a great starting point for additional variations. You could add some red pepper flakes for a spicier version, or add some fresh herbs to add some freshness. Please add your ideas and how you use sweet and sour sauce to the comments below!

Sweet and Sour Sauce
Serve with vegetables, poultry, or meat.

1/2 cup apricot preserves (no sugar added)
1/3 cup coconut aminos
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Whisk all ingredients in a small saucepan and bring to a boil.
Lower heat and whisk for a few minutes. For an extra-thick sauce, whisk at medium heat for a few minutes more.
The sauce will thicken as it cools.

Great recipe, nice and simple! Could I sub soy sauce for the aminos?

Coconut Aminos is very similar to soy sauce – you may just have to tweak the recipe a little.

What are coconut aminos, and can I find them in a regular grocery store? I was told I am pre-diabetic so will the apricot preserve- in the form of a fruit spread like Smuckers- be o.k for me to use? I get confused about sugar and carb. counting.

Also, could pineapple juice from canned pineapple ( in natural juices) be substituted for the preserve?

    Thank you in advance,
    Joan

Hi Joan, you can find coconut aminos at Whole Foods and Sprouts, not sure if they are widely available yet. (Also on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2qVqlWn)

I don’t like giving medical advice online, but it might be helpful for you to have a session with a nutritionist to assist you with your other questions.
