Welcome to another edition of the Real Food Holidays Blog Carnival – Sukkot 2011 edition. Link up your holiday recipes, share your menu ideas, and tips.

Sukkot is the Jewish harvest festival, celebrating the gathering in of fruit, farming, and nature. Though there are no specific symbolic foods eaten on Sukkot, fruits and vegetables are abundant in many dishes. An important part of the celebration is building a Sukkah or booth/hut, commemorating the temporary shelters built by the Israelites while wandering in the dessert for 40 years. For this eight day festival all meals are eaten in the sukkah.

    Hi, Lisa!

Thanks for hosting! I’ve been so busy with our move to Israel that I haven’t posted recipes in ages, but your email kickstarted me. 🙂 I shared a new recipe that our entire family liked, and since there’s so many of us, if everyone likes it, it’s a good sign!

    Chag sameach!

Over Rosh Hashana I made 4 different soups – it was so nice to have at many of the meals and put me in the mood for more soup on sukkot. I share a new recipe for roated red pepper soup and six other soups to enjoy over the holiday – keep warm! http://elishasdoubleportion.blogspot.com/2011/10/sukkot-2011.html
